[It's that time of year again. The annual Powderpuff Football Game that takes place the month before the senior ball, which pays for the venue while the senior fundraisers and the tickets cover the rest of the expenses.
People are dressed in school colors, the more enthusiastic putting streaks in their hair. The cheerleaders and their friends are in football jerseys, even Letha, though with the baby she's watching from the bench. The normal football team, and those lucky enough to be friends with the cheerleaders, are relegated to playing cheerleaders for the game. Some of the boys wear the top and shorts, some of the them wear shorts underneath, and some of them, like Roman, go for the whole thing.
He's got the legs to pull it off, as the girls had insisted. Long, slender, shaved smooth, and he wears the shin-high athletic socks with sneakers he bought just for this (they're not his usual style, but he's got the money, so why the fuck not?). The skirt is short and flared, and the top fits snug over his flat chest, straps hanging from his thin shoulders. Green and black accents his eyes, and there's something ironic about the wolf printed on the shirt above the letters 'HGHS'. Most boys actually wearing the skirt make a joke of it, with balloons for breasts and glitter makeup, but Roman just wears it with his hair loose instead of gelled back, and a perpetual grin.
He grabs his books off his desk as the bell rings, fucking finally. There's an hour before they start getting set up for the game, and he wanders over to his locker, shoving the books in and grabs his pompoms as he looks over at Peter, leaning against his locker as he shoves it closed.
