1. first day

Catch up with old friends, brave new teachers, fight your way through the sea of students, and hope you're in the right classroom. Oh, you're the new kid. Well, that's okay as long as you've got more than enough summer vacation anecdotes to fill ten pages of Times New Roman size 12, single-spaced.

2. first period

You're gonna be late! Or are you already there? Class hasn't started just yet, so chat it up or copy your classmate's homework before the teacher gets here.

3. lesson proper

You're probably diligently taking notes, looking out the window daydreaming or reciting in class, much to your teacher's delight - or dismay. Try not to be too obvious when counting down the minutes and pass that note as discreetly as possible.

4. faculty

Have a bone to pick with your terror math teacher. A crush on the cute chemistry teacher? There might be something you want to ask your homeroom teacher about. In any case, you plan on seeing a faculty member today. Or maybe they plan on seeing you!

5. lunch break

Man, you are starving. Hopefully, today's menu has something good. If the crowded cafeteria's not your thing, try the rooftop.

6. hooky

One of you is skipping class. You should try talking them out of it if that's your thing.

7. detention

What on earth did you do to get this? Oh well. Detention can't be that bad when you've got all these very nice, approachable model students around to talk to.

8. p.e.

Baseball, basketball, dodgeball - no matter the sport, just remember: you are the star. It's you. At least, you hope it is.

9. home ec.

Sewing! Cooking! ... Try not to burn the school down!

10. lab work

Frog dissections! Explosions!

11. school fair/festival

Every school has one of these. What's your class doing this year?

12. theater

Oh boy, oh boy, being the star of this play is your dream. It isn't? Oh. You're still helping with the props and costumes, right?

13. library

If you need to look something up or just want some peace and quiet, this is the place. Whatever you do, shh, people are trying to read.

14. bully

Whether they take the form of Nelson Muntz or Regina George, if you choose to meet them at the gym at four o' clock or else, be ready to face the consequences... or maybe you don't have to. Not when someone's here to help you out. (This can go either way - one of the participants can be the bully or someone helping the victim.)

15. tutor

You're having trouble with a class or you're trying to make up for the days you were absent. It's a good thing someone was nice enough to offer their assistance.

16. clubs

Assuming that you actually have one. Are you writing for the school paper? Part of the student council? The marching band? Maybe you're a member of one of those weird occult clubs or something...

17. prom

Do you have a dress? A date? Who are you voting for prom king? Is being on prom committee is driving you crazy? Do you even care?

18. graduation

Well, it was fun while it lasted. It's time to say those last words, settle those scores and get ready to grow up.

[He's actually mildly surprised at that, and files it away as something to think about later. For now, he just leans on his elbows and sighs] It's because they've been infected, infected! Love's a mental illness, you know, and even if all these stooges haven't actually fallen in love, it's on their minds when they ask someone out here. Either that or they're just following their urges.

For someone who enjoys chaos, I thought this would be something fun for you. [ She gives Haruki a teasing smile. ]

I enjoy things being fun, or interesting! Things have to reject the status quo! [He rolls his eyes at this, because of course this is obvious. He even points with a fork to emphasize the point, now he picked it up] Something like this, is the status quo.

If that's how you feel, then why not make it into something of your own? You're usually good at that.

[The fork droops a bit, as he looks at her quizzically for a moment]

[And then he starts to smirk a little]

Are you encouraging me to mess up these love-addled people's dance by giving them something which'll actually liven up their lives?

I'm not encouraging you to mess up the dance, but perhaps you could liven it up with your own little twist.

[ She might try to make things less outrageous when it comes to Haruki's club, but she won't deny even she's found some of their ideas to be... a little fun. ]

[This is unbelievable - or well, it is in his mind - that the President is encouraging him. Shouldn't she be shooting him down? Or telling him to have the SOS-Brigade back off? Or trying to disband them as punishment for some random infringement?

...Or so it would go in his cliched world mind. But. Instead, he looks incredulous a moment, and starts messing his fork around his plate, though he doesn't pick up anything to eat yet]

Huh, livening it up with a twist... that's a tall order as long as it's something like this...

Well if you don't think you or your friends are up to it...

[...!] I never said we weren't up to it! In fact, I'm going to take that as a challenge, President!

[ She can't help but laugh a little. She hides it behind her hand though. ]

I see you look a little more energetic now.

Of course I do! And you better show up to it too, right? I can't afford for you to miss the show!

[He says this while tapping a fist perhaps a bit more forcefully than was necessary on the table, which makes some other people at other ends of the table frown lightly. After all this conversation they were overhearing was. Well. absurd to begin with]

[ She jumped a little at his fist pounding and gives him a little smile. ]

I certainly can't miss it. I'm the only encouraging it after all.

How do I know I can take your word for that?

What kind of proof do you need?

[He thinks for a moment. Collateral? That seems the most logical. But he's not some manga punk, it's not like he can ask her for anything precious. So finally, it comes to him]

Oh, I've got it. Go as my "date." If we register for a photo then you'll have to show up.

As... your date?

[ Ignore the way her face is reacting. She was just a little embarrassed that's all. No one has bluntly asked or really demanded her like that, then again he probably only said it to make sure she can't back down. There wasn't any other feelings behind it, right? Besides Haruki couldn't really stand her. ]

I would have thought if you went you would choose one of your friends.

Why would I do that? [He looks genuinely uncomprehending as he looks back at her, because he hasn't internalized the meaning here. But the minute he does see her face his own face tinges with a little color and some secondhand embarrassment hits him. Which is stupid, because she's the President, and-] No. Look, it works out, right?

...I suppose you are right. This way you can believe me and my word.

So... it's agreed! You'll go with me like that, and I'll show you what my SOS-Brigade has done to make it more memorable.

[But even as he says this, he knows the situation has changed. The mood has changed. And the fact he knows some other people eavesdropping on the on other ends of the table are watching this and probably gossiping just cements the mood]

I'll do my best not to embarrass you.

[-Why?!]

[Not sure how to respond to that, and arguably knowing he shouldn't, Haruki collects his fork to go at eating his food and averts his gaze from her. Ignoring the fact he can still feel the mood. Damn mood.]

[ She stares down at her lap in silence, but she can't seem to make this smile of hers go away no matter how hard she tries. She just had a nice feeling bubbling inside. ]

[He's got a soaring feeling himself.

It's a terrible feeling, it reminds him of the little moments of affection he feels sometimes and make him feel insane. Particularly because it's the President in front of him. You know, if anything, he speeds up his eating so he can get out of this situation, get away from her, and stop feeling eyes on him. Actually, the fact he is noticing</> eyes on him bugs him too.]
