1. first day

Catch up with old friends, brave new teachers, fight your way through the sea of students, and hope you're in the right classroom. Oh, you're the new kid. Well, that's okay as long as you've got more than enough summer vacation anecdotes to fill ten pages of Times New Roman size 12, single-spaced.

2. first period

You're gonna be late! Or are you already there? Class hasn't started just yet, so chat it up or copy your classmate's homework before the teacher gets here.

3. lesson proper

You're probably diligently taking notes, looking out the window daydreaming or reciting in class, much to your teacher's delight - or dismay. Try not to be too obvious when counting down the minutes and pass that note as discreetly as possible.

4. faculty

Have a bone to pick with your terror math teacher. A crush on the cute chemistry teacher? There might be something you want to ask your homeroom teacher about. In any case, you plan on seeing a faculty member today. Or maybe they plan on seeing you!

5. lunch break

Man, you are starving. Hopefully, today's menu has something good. If the crowded cafeteria's not your thing, try the rooftop.

6. hooky

One of you is skipping class. You should try talking them out of it if that's your thing.

7. detention

What on earth did you do to get this? Oh well. Detention can't be that bad when you've got all these very nice, approachable model students around to talk to.

8. p.e.

Baseball, basketball, dodgeball - no matter the sport, just remember: you are the star. It's you. At least, you hope it is.

9. home ec.

Sewing! Cooking! ... Try not to burn the school down!

10. lab work

Frog dissections! Explosions!

11. school fair/festival

Every school has one of these. What's your class doing this year?

12. theater

Oh boy, oh boy, being the star of this play is your dream. It isn't? Oh. You're still helping with the props and costumes, right?

13. library

If you need to look something up or just want some peace and quiet, this is the place. Whatever you do, shh, people are trying to read.

14. bully

Whether they take the form of Nelson Muntz or Regina George, if you choose to meet them at the gym at four o' clock or else, be ready to face the consequences... or maybe you don't have to. Not when someone's here to help you out. (This can go either way - one of the participants can be the bully or someone helping the victim.)

15. tutor

You're having trouble with a class or you're trying to make up for the days you were absent. It's a good thing someone was nice enough to offer their assistance.

16. clubs

Assuming that you actually have one. Are you writing for the school paper? Part of the student council? The marching band? Maybe you're a member of one of those weird occult clubs or something...

17. prom

Do you have a dress? A date? Who are you voting for prom king? Is being on prom committee is driving you crazy? Do you even care?

18. graduation

Well, it was fun while it lasted. It's time to say those last words, settle those scores and get ready to grow up.

[Alright, so he'll play along. She pauses for a moment to think of another interesting scenario before sending the ball whizzing his way. If he isn't womanizing a professor, then maybe he's doing something a little more shady.]

How about meeting an upperclassman to trade cigarettes for a test answer key?

[The same dodge-collect-throw combo happens again. He's way too wary of that arm. Maybe next time. But this time, he objects]

Eeeeh?! I'm way more wholesome than that, Haruhi-chan! Unless you've brought some cloves up here or something!

No way! I've got better things to do than deal with petty stuff like that.

[Better things like skipping class just for the hell of it. As for her guessing game, she's got two strikes. This fastball has some extra power behind it - her own hail mary pass to go with her attempt not to strike out on guesses.]

Alright, then you're the middleman delivering a secret message to a school administrator. They've picked you because you're a seemingly harmless and slightly stupid highschool student who surely won't crack their secret code.

Slightly stupid?! [He says this with some shock as he catches the ball in his hand - which hurts his wrist, but doesn't break anything or kill him like he thought. Oh wow. that. Was strong]

That's the kind of personality you have, isn't it?

[She totally knows his type. Or at least she thinks that she does.]

That's not to sort of think you should just be saying about people, Haruhi-chan! [With a slight defensive note in it, but he's mostly still in good humor here, honestly. ...Mostly]

[Haruhi is one of those people who says what she thinks no matter the circumstance or social norm. Other people's feelings? Totally irrelevant. Her perceptions of people? Totally on point.]

I'm not going to lie to you about your personality. Besides, being a little stupid is essential to your charm. Nobody likes an overdramatic know-it-all.

[She's also a master of the backhanded compliment.]

Aaahah! So you're falling for me already!

[He says this following up her last statement without missing a beat - and tosses the ball back as he says it to boot]

Excuse me?

[It's Haruhi's turn to fumble with the ball, almost missing the catch because he's saying something so ridiculous. And here she thought everyone knew she only wanted to meet aliens, time travelers, and espers.]

Charm is hardly enough to make me fall for anyone. You can call me if you develop some supernatural powers.

[To emphasize, she throws another killer pitch.]

That's harsh, Haruhi-chan! [He says this while she's fumbling, and then the pitch comes back, he dives again, because he's half sure that would kill him. As if to confirm this, this time the ball is actually lodged in the chain link fence it bounces into after the brick wall behind Masaomi.

A lodging her ends up looking at in amazement]

A girl has to have standards.

[Her standards just happen to be impossible to meet, and that is not something she will apologize for.

In addition to her high standards for men, Haruhi also has high standards for her accomplishments. Unlike Kida, she is not all that impressed with her feat.]

Aw, did it get stuck? There's some stupid rule about that in real baseball. I got a ball stuck while I was batting and it didn't count for anything!

[He mutters something like "You're a marvel, Suzumiya-san" when he goes to pull out the ball, a smile still plastered onto his face. It's a lazy toss right back at her]

That's a shame! Sounds like you hit that ball right out of the park, or would if not for the fence.

I totally would have.

[Despite all of her team-quitting, she really does have a soft spot for baseball. It's really the only sport she'll bother to brag about. This time, she tosses the ball back normally to avoid any more potential fence problems.]

You're not on any sports teams, are you?

Not a one! I can't let the "team" get in the way of the "ladies!"

[He says this in the midst of a catch and return back to her, grinning and even striking a small pose - fanning himself - when he completes the action]

So your only after-school activity is picking up girls.

[She states it so matter-of-factly. No judgement here, though. It's as good an activity as any. Above all else, it suits his personality.]

You aren't missing much. There isn't a single club here that's really fun.

So, so, maybe I can even pick up you, Haruhi-chan?

[He won't let that one go. ...Okay maybe he will, but there was an opening for that one, and he arches his eyebrow for it]

I already told you that I'm only interested in supernatural beings.

[She starts bouncing the tennis ball absentmindedly. Sorry, Kida, you're two years too late. If this were middle school, he would've had a guaranteed 'yes.' Since then she's gotten a bit more picky about who she wastes time on.]

And above being flustered I seem. Alas, I've encountered a girl who isn't even phased by the resonance of my heart!

[Including a small twirl and a dramatic finger point before he crouches down forward slightly]

I figured you were going to ask me out sooner or later.

[Had he asked a little earlier, she might have faltered some. But after talking for a while, she couldn't help but think a flirt like him would make a pass at her.

His second statement, however, is something she finds terribly hard to believe. The tennis ball's bouncing stops abruptly.]

Are you telling me that I'm the first girl who hasn't fallen for your dramatics?

Eeeeh, of course! My success rate is actually i! [And he laughs here. Math isn't his forte, but it's something they've been learning and the joke struck him. He puffs out his chest, tapping it lightly]

I know, I know, I'm awesome.

[If Haruhi were the type to facepalm, she'd be doing it right now.

Instead, she hurls the tennis ball at him.]

You're ridiculous.

[It hits him in the face. Fortunately, it aren't as hard as it could be, but-]

Ow! Hey, Haruhi-chan, that's foul play!

[Whoops. She hadn't meant to hit him with the face, but she rolls with it anyway.]

All's fair in love and war, Kida-kun.

[He pauses, and then snaps his fingers, cupping his hands together into a heart thereafter]

So you love me already?!

You're the love part.

[She mirrors him, making a heart with her own hands.

Then she pulls her hands apart, effectively breaking the heart.]
